History of Heart's Delight / Islington
According to the Baccalieu Trail Heritage Corporation, there are at least two stories about how the town received its name. One is that it was named by a traveler who arrived in the cove and found his "Heart's Delight" there. However, another version suggests that Heart's Delight and the communities of Heart's Desire and Heart's Content were named after fishing vessels, the Heart's Delight, the Heart's Desire and the Heart's Content, that fished out of these harbours during the migratory fishery in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

There is documentary evidence that Heart's Delight was settled in the late 1700's as the population expanded south along the coast from places such as Old Perlican, New Perlican and Heart's Content, and as new settlers arrived from the English west country. The earliest reference to Heart's Delight in the Trinity parish records is the birth of Elizabeth Wolfrey, daughter of William and Elizabeth, in 1785.
